Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Recreational Sports, under direction, assists in overseeing the administration and organization of a comprehensive recreational sports program unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive Sports Club program.

    o Develop a Sport Club Council made up of students and staff to develop and govern the policies and budget within this area.

    o Recruit and assist students in developing officially sanctioned sports clubs.

    o Advise those sports clubs that further the mission of the department.

    o Assist club leaders with planning, scheduling, and administering all club events.

    o Oversee budget allocations, fundraising, and policy/procedure adherence.

    o Develop and coordinate a streamlined process for travel arrangements of all sport clubs. This will require collaboration with Dean of Students, Travel, and Student Organizations.

    o Create a leadership institute for current and up-and-coming club officers.

    o Maintain records of all sport clubs' activities, discipline, and participation.

    o Assist in planning and execution of all sport club home events.

  • Plan, organize, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive intramural program.

    o Schedule all intramural contests and coordinate programs to completion.

    o Recruit, train, and manage student staff and officials and further promote an environment of diversity and inclusivity.

    o Determine policies regarding eligibility, scheduling, and registration.

    o Purchase all intramural equipment and maintain inventory.

    o Coordinate the scheduling and maintenance of all intramural facilities.

    o Develop all policies, procedures, and sport specific rules related to intramurals.

    o Maintain records of standings, sportsmanship, and participation rates.

    o Oversee the discipline of all participants, including addressing sportsmanship, ejections, appeals, and game protest issues.

  • Develop, manage, and evaluate Esports programs.

    o This is one of Rec. Sports emerging program areas and will require complete architecture, infrastructure, and stakeholder consensus from the ground up.

    o Esports will span the range of leagues, tournaments, one-day events, and platforms.

  • Recruit, manage, and develop Graduate Assistant.

    o Recruit and select qualified candidates for the graduate assistant-ship within Competitive Sports.

    o Leverage experiences and tasks within area to assist in their development and prepare them for potential careers in campus recreation.

    o Provide written and verbal feedback for performance, professional documents, and mock interviews.

  • Other areas as assigned.

    o Develop and implement comprehensive marketing plan to promote programs, clinics, and staffing positions.

    o This position requires management of evening and weekend programs as well as a reasonable amount of travel.

    o Manage software such as Fusion, IM Leagues, or other related applications.

    o Serve as primary risk manager for areas of oversight.

    o Work with campus partners to develop campus wide relationships and initiatives, as well as policies and procedures. Serve on committees as assigned.

    o Identify and develop revenue generating initiatives that assist in the facilitation of student-focused programs.

    o Represents the department at University functions in the absence of the Director, including orientation programs and information fairs, to increase awareness of services and programs.
