Job Summary
The Student Assistant Literacy Coach supports the Early Literacy and Learning Model (ELLM) program in preschool classrooms by assisting with literacy activities, classroom preparation, and teacher support. This position is designed for part-time student workers who want to gain practical experience in early childhood education, literacy and coaching while balancing their coursework.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with literacy-rich classroom activities using ELLM materials.
- Support teachers in preparing materials and organizing classrooms.
- Help with data entry and simple progress tracking (under supervision).
- Model positive interactions wit children during classroom visits.
- Provide assistance during training sessions, family events, and center activities.
- Collaborate with literacy coaches and teaching staff to reinforce best practices.
- Assist with creating and sharing resources (e.g., newsletters, handouts, or activity kits).
- Participate in reflective meetings with coaches and supervisors.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Help organize literacy materials in the grant office.
- Support work study and graduate students with project tasks.
- Other duties as assigned by the coaching team or supervisor.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current enrollment as an FGCU student.
- Interest in early childhood education, literacy, or related field.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and peers.
- Ability to travel to local preschool sites (transportation support may be available).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or experience in early childhood education, literacy, or child development.
- Experience working with young children (e.g., babysitting, tutoring, volunteering).
- Bilingual language skills.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Enthusiasm for working with children and educations.
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines while balancing student commitments.
- Willingness to learn literacy coaching strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork orientation.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
- Part-time, up to 8-10 hours per week, flexible around class schedules.
- Some evenings or weekends may be required for family events.
- Student hourly wage (per FGCU student employment guidelines).
