Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus institution with vibrant, urban campuses in Boston, Massachusetts, in nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts, and at several satellites and instructional sites throughout the Greater Boston area. Job Description:

The AAPI Success Coach is responsible for assisting with developing and delivering culturally responsive services and programming with a focus on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students that may include but are not limited to the following:



  • Serving as a Success Coach for integrated (accelerated) English language learner courses, specifically ESL clusters.
  • Creating and delivering culturally responsive student services and programming aimed at improving student engagement, retention, and graduation.
  • Providing advising and success coaching to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Pell-eligible students, with a focus on educational and career planning.
  • Developing cohort/community-building activities that promote a safe, supportive atmosphere for exploring one's ethnic identity, aspirations, challenges, and other topics of interest.
  • Training faculty, staff, and peer mentors who can serve as resources and provide effective curricular and co-curricular support.
  • Coordinating outreach activities to provide culturally responsive academic and career pathways for prospective students from local high schools and community-based organizations.
  • Building collaborative relationships with different resource centers on campus to provide appropriate support services, such as: tutoring, forming study groups, supplemental instruction, or accommodations for disabilities; financial literacy skills development; and emergency assistance.
  • Working with relevant areas of the College to provide meaningful opportunities for community engagement and other co-curricular activities, as well as training in student leadership development
  • Assisting students in exploring scholarships, internships, and transfer opportunities.
  • Increasing awareness of the diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) experiences across the College.
  • Developing a resource inventory of internal and external student support services.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Asian American Studies, Transnational, Cultural and Community Studies, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or a closely related field, with three (3) years experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project development and/or management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with diverse students in a fast-paced student services/client services or equivalent setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a range of different academic and non-academic units, and community-based organizations.
  • Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work 2 evenings per week (11a.m.-7p.m and 10a.m-6p.m.)
  • Proficiency in student information systems as well as MS Word and Excel.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
  • Prior work experience at a community college.
  • Experience working with English Language Learner populations.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $54,956.00 - $60,000.00. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. (Please note this position is grant-funded through September 2021. Future funding for the position is pending availability after the grant period)



Grade: 5, Unit-Professional position
