Job Summary

This professional academic advising position is responsible for assisting student-athletes by providing comprehensive academic advising and support service programs. Oversee academic support for various teams as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services. Responsibilities would include being up to date on Georgia Southern, Sun Belt, and NCAA rules and regulations in regards to the academics of student-athletes. Will be responsible for providing various reports that tracks the eligibility of each student-athletes, progress towards degree, and progress to towards graduation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide students with in-depth information concerning course descriptions, prerequisites, and registration procedures
  • Create appropriate and individualized academic support plans and goals for high achieving and at-risk student athletes
  • Promote study skill development and diverse learning strategies
  • Communicate with athletics administration, coaching staff and faculty regarding student athlete progress
  • Monitor academic progress as it relates to the NCAA, the Sun Belt Conference, and Georgia Southern policies and regulations
  • Assist in recruiting prospective student athletes and their families to provide information regarding academics at Georgia Southern
  • Must meet weekly with respective coaches to discuss the academic progress of athletic teams
  • Meet regularly with new freshmen and at-risk student athletes to track academic progress
  • Collaborate with campus advising units in developing academic schedules, counseling regarding change of major requests and auditing student progress towards graduation
  • Assist student-athletes in identifying the various resources on campus that can help them navigate the college experience
  • Perform preliminary evaluation of transfer credits towards Georgia Southern policies and NCAA rules
  • Develop and maintain appropriate files and records


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree

Proposed Salary

$45,000

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Ability to monitor and collect data and assess accuracy and integrity of data
  • Ability to problem solve, manage multiple assignments and projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Understanding of campus resources available to students
  • Understanding of advisement theory and practices
  • Familiar with and apply General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), competencies with accounting and other systems, financial and budget applications, and reporting conventions, and have ability to professionally interact with various levels of faculty and staff personnel while adhering to Institutional, State, and Federal laws, policies, and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to cost, governmental and non-governmental accounting

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize advisor resources at a basic level as required
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and work alongside other campus resources
